Best Books of 2020

Updated: Jan 5, 2022

For a few years now I've made in an annual goal to read 12 books. That has more or less happened. In 2020, I ended up reading 13, yahoo!! Out of those that I read, the most memorable were:

  • Medicine Walk by Richard Wagamese. The story of a son's journey in helping his estranged father and his deeper connection to his Ojibway culture.

  • Educated by Tara Westover. The life story of a woman finding her way out of the world her family of origin kept her locked in.

  • We Have Always Been Here by Samra Habib. A Canadian author's journey to finding safety as her true self as a queer muslim woman.

  • Being Mortal by Atul Gawande. A book that gives both insights into the the 21st century world of medicine, as well as ignites personal reflections around what vitality and mortality is really about. Read my book review here.

  • Still Alice by Lisa Genova. A book about a woman's personal experience with Alzheimer's disease, a neurodegenerative brain disorder.

  • Me and White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad. A book that teaches us how to dismantle the privilege within ourselves so that we can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on people of colour.

Stay strong,

Myriame
